-How Axl Rose Spent All That Time..  NYT

Mr. Rose, 46, the only remaining original member of Guns N’ Roses, needed 17 years, more than $13 million (as of 2005) and a battalion of musicians, producers and advisers to deliver “Chinese Democracy,” the first album of new Guns N’ Roses songs since 1991.

-When Right is Left! Rachel Maddow comes out on top. NW

It’s not despite her differences from other talking heads, but because of them. A funny, cerebral and likable young woman who reads graphic novels and hungers for political change is more representative of the times than the older, angrier male pundits who’ve dominated the debate for so long. Maddow is not angry—her fans find her adorable, often confessing to crushes on her—but she is anxious, driven and determined. She did not stumble into a boys’ club. She elbowed her way in, smiling.

As is the case with Great Britain, Israel, and other nations that allow gays and lesbians to serve openly, our service members are professionals who are able to work together effectively despite differences in race, gender, religion, and sexuality,” the officers wrote.

While Obama has expressed support for repeal, he said during the presidential campaign that he would not do so on his own — an indication that he would tread carefully to prevent the issue from becoming a drag on his agenda. Obama said he would instead work with military leaders to build consensus on removing the ban on openly gay service members.

A “lost” Beatles track once thought to have been only a myth is real, says Paul McCartney. “Carnival of Light,” a 14-minute-long unconventional recording of the Beatles improvising on the various instruments and noisemakers in the band’s Abbey Road studios, rejected by other members of the group for inclusion in the The Beatles Anthology, might soon see the light of day soon.

-From the pages of Digitalmusicnews.com

-More details are now emerging on an initiative by SanDisk to package albums into tiny, microSD slots.  Early Monday morning, the company outlined an initiative – called slotMusic – that packages entire albums into tiny, thumbnail-sized microSD storage cards.  The cards fit into slots found across a wide range of mobile phones and portable MP3 players.  Additionally, the slots are being packaged into USB sleeves for broader compatibility, and initially sold through mega-retailers Best Buy and Wal-Mart.

The list of albums will initially includes about 30 titles, including releases from mainstream artists Akon, Chris Brown, Ne-Yo, Rihanna, Robin Thicke, Weezer, Usher, and Leona Lewis, according to additional disclosures by the company.  The slotMusic storage cards will offer a storage of 1GB, enough to carry music and extras like artwork, liner notes, images, and other related media.  Pricing details are less defined, though estimates fall between $7 and $15.  The DRM-free albums have been licensed from all four major labels, and MP3s are being encoded at 320kbps.

And now a special report about this years Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominees:

-The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced its nominees for 2009. Of the nine nominees only five will be granted access to this grand hall of mediocrity. While not all of the members of the hall of fame are truly mediocre, the nominees and newly announced members have become more of a joke in recent years. Most years we do get one or two strong candidates inducted into the Cleveland, Ohio shrine. We’ve seen Leonard Cohen (2008), Patti Smith (2007), Miles Davis and The Sex Pistols (2006) and a laundry list of fading stars get inducted in the past few years but not since the year 2003 have we had a strong list of five great groups. That year we saw Elvis Costello and The Attractions, The Police, The Clash, AC/DC, and The Righteous Brothers all achieving hall of fame status. Well, this year isn’t that bad I guess. Run DMC have done something for society. If it wasn’t for Metallica i’d have no one to laugh at tonight. I don’t really have any commentary on the others…

Sigh…

Here’s a list of the nominees:

Run- D.M.C

Metallica

Jeff Beck

Wanda Jackson

Little Anthony and the Imperials: No one has actually seen or heard of this band…

War

Bobby Womack

Chic

Thanks…
