-I have  never been to Seattle. I spent a week in Vancouver once before a cruise but that’s about the extent of my Pacific Northwest travels. As i do with most things, i happened to stumble over this song this morning. It’s cute, it’s short, it’s to the point. Give it a listen

–Suresh Joachim has broken his own Guinness world record for nonstop broadcast-television watching, clocking 72 hours in the Swedish capital.

“I feel fine, I drank between 25 and 30 cups of coffee,” Joachim said Sunday.

His previous record was 69 hours, 48 minutes, set in 2005.

Joachim, a Sri Lanka native who lives in Toronto, watched three seasons of the drama series “24” featuring Kiefer Sutherland, said Swedish TV4 spokeswoman Janina Witkowski.

—And to bring the whole world back to a decent level of sadness.. Here’s a song that has been featured at least twice here that just seems to keep coming back up. Perhaps we’re pushing this one  a bit too hard.. There’s just a definite soft spot for bearded, flannel-wearing, singer-songwriters..

A Last Note: Monday night is the Pains Of Being Pure at Heart show @ The Cat. You should go.

Live Nation Teams With Blockbuster

3 12 2008

blockbuster-Live Nation will begin selling tickets at 500 Blockbuster locations. The ticket giant hopes to bolster it’s sales by allowing customers to pay in person with any form of payment and to further it’s visibility in the market place. Not to make the deal one-sided,  Blockbuster is looking to increase foot-traffic by adding the ticket kiosks and to remind consumers that they still exist. While Live Nation slowly takes over every aspect of your life, try to remember your favorite Live Nation Event. Radiohead @ Nissan Pavilion ring any bells?

livenation_logo“This deal with Blockbuster represents the next step in the rollout of our new ticketing system,” said Nathan Hubbard, Chief Executive Officer of Live Nation Ticketing. ”Our research definitively shows that the vast majority of music fans who prefer to buy their concert tickets at a retail location find Blockbuster to be the most convenient choice.”

2597339534_a00791909b-Blink 182’s members have reconnected. According to Mark Hoppus, the recent death of producer Jerry Finn and Travis Barker’s plane crash brought the three back together. While this doesn’t necessarily mean a reunion, the fact that they’re all talking is a step in the right direction. “We’re just reconnecting as friends after four years of not talking,” he says. “It’s a good thing. Obviously the first question for a lot of people will be, ‘Does this mean a Blink-182 reunion?’ The answer is none of us know. We haven’t talked about it at all. Right now it’s just good for the three of us to see one another, reconnect and let the past be the past.” The band’s last show was Dec. 16, 2004, in Dublin.

-Radiohead announced today that In Rainbows sold around 3 million copies across all formats. While  BitTorrent downloads surpassed that number, the band still made more on the record than they did off of 2003’s Hail to the Thief (994,000 physical sales). While many were quick to write-off Radiohead and their publicity machine of an album, I though quite highly of it. “All i Need” gets me every time for some reason.

Stats:

• After being made available for free for 3 months the album was no.1 in the UK and in the US
• 1st Radiohead album on iTunes – no.1 album selling 30,000 units in the US in the first week
• The physical CD has sold 1.75 million to date and is still top 200 UK & US
• They sold 100k boxsets via W.A.S.T.E.
• Nearing 17 million plays on last.fm
• 1.2 million fans will see the tour
• The digital income from the experiment made a material difference to WCM’s UK digital revenue this year

INtro

14 10 2008

Hey guys, I decided it was about time to contribute to the Fabakis family blog. My human name is Daniel, but since this is the cyber world you can call me redfordisredford. It doesn’t make any sense other than the fact that I think Robert Redford is a pretty awesome character in today’s world. I am not that intellectual of a writer, so don’t expect a whole lot of well developed sentences.

I was born in Seattle, Washington and consider myself “from the west coast”, even though I’ve lived the past 9 years of my life in Fairfax, Virginia. Currently I am enrolled as a student at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and am unsure about what I plan on doing with my life. I have already been a student of two colleges before Virginia Tech, so you can probably conclude that I am incredibly indecisive. I am also very bad at confrontation. I guess one of my few redeeming qualities is I know something or two about films and filmmaking. Its something I’m kind of passionate about, so if you would like to discuss a certain film or aesthetic field of cinema, I’ll be completely down for that.

I don’t think I’ll be contributing a whole lot to this blog mostly because I don’t have a lot to say in the realm of hipsters and Indie music, even though I find both very interesting subjects. I will, though, follow the trend of my friends, and other authors of this blog in naming my favorite albums, and movies.

Music:

Boys and Girls in America – The Hold Steady

Graduation – Kanye West

The Bends/OK Computer – Radiohead

A Rush of Blood to the Head – Coldplay

The Chronic – Dr. Dre

Blood Sugar Sex Magik/One Hot Minute – Red Hot Chili Peppers

Summerteeth – Wilco

Movies:

2001: A Space Odyssey

Raging Bull

The Godfather

Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels
